While we are pleased with the accomplishments nationally and remain committed to fighting the spread of PAS, we are concerned about what is happening in Oregon, where private and public health systems are being silenced and can no longer publicly promote the ethic that each life has inherent value. We are also seeing changes in physician attitudes. I personally know colleagues who, although initially opposed to physician-assisted suicide, have changed their views, and who now refer patients for medical killing.
Patients want to know where their physicians and their health systems stand. In an effort to promote patient-physician communication and to help patients know who to trust, PCCEF will soon be launching a “Take the Pledge” campaign. You will be hearing more about this campaign in the coming year.
