This past year has been a very active year for Physicians for Compassionate Care Education Foundation (PCCEF)  and next year is going to be an important year for our organization.

With the passage of I-1000 in Washington, we now have a second state where physician-assisted suicide is legal.  Through the process of working against this ballot initiative, many have become energized to work harder to promote the ethic that human life has inherent value.  There is room for everyone in this important work.

PCCEF can play a central role by remaining committed to improving end-of-life care and working with physicians to protect the vulnerable.  We are committed to promoting “Take the Pledge” in Oregon and Washington.  Patients and physicians need to know whom to trust.  If you have not done so already, please take a moment to look at our “Take the Pledge” material or go directly online to www.take-the-pledge.com and stand with us.

If you know others who share the ethic that human life has inherent value, please help grow our membership by telling them about this website.  Forward this URL to at least two other people (physicians, allied health providers, or concerned citizens) and let them know to join us.

PCCEF continues to affirm the ethic that human life has inherent value and that doctor-assisted suicide does the following:

  • Undermines trust in the patient-physician relationship
  • Alters the role of the physician from the traditional one of healer to executioner.
  • Endangers the value that society places on life, specifically for the vulnerable

Physicians for Compassionate Care Education Foundation and its members will continue to assist individual patients and their families to access excellent palliative care at the end of life.
