Assisted Suicide Not Legal; Legislation pending in Committee

2024—SB 681 which proposes legalizing physician-assisted suicide remains in the Senate Health Policy Committee.

2023—SB 681 (“Death with Dignity Act”) which proposes legalizing physician-assisted suicide is introduced in November, placed in the Committee on Health Policy, and is carried over to the next session.

2017—HB4461 (“Death with Dignity Act”) to legalize physician-assisted suicide is introduced and referred to the committee on Health Policy. It does not advance.

1998—Proposal B ballot initiative which would legalize physician-assisted suicide in a manner similar to Oregon’s law is voted down by 71% of the voters.

1995-1999—Attempts each year to pass assisted suicide legislation do not succeed.
