Assisted Suicide Not Legal

2024—SF 1813/HF 1930 are carried over from the previous session. HF 1930 is amended and sent to several different committees, but fails to advance beyond the committee level.

2023—SF 1813/HF 1930 (“End-of-Life Option Act”) which would legalize physician- or advance practice registered nurse-assisted suicide are introduced in both chambers and sent to Health and Human Services and Health Finance and Policy Committees, respectively. No further action.

2021—SF1352 /HF1358 (“End of Life Option”) which would legalize physician- or advance practice registered nurse-assisted suicide are introduced and assigned to the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy and the Health and Human Services Policy Committees, respectively. Neither bill advances.

2019—SF2286 and HF2152 (“End of Life Option”) which would legalize physician- or advance practice registered nurse-assisted suicide are introduced and assigned to the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy and the Health and Human Services Policy Committees, respectively. Neither bill advances.

2017—SF1572 /HF1885 (“Minnesota End-of-Life Option Act”) which would legalize physician-assisted suicide are introduced. SF 1572 is referred to the Health and Human Services Finance and Policy Committee. HF1885 is referred to the House Government Operations and Policy Committee, which passes it out to the State Government Finance Committee. Neither bill advances further.

2015-2016—SF1880 /HF2095 (“Minnesota Compassionate Care Act”) which would legalize physician-assisted suicide are introduced in both the Senate and House and referred to the Health, Human Services and Housing and Health and Human Services Reform Committees, respectively. No further action was taken.
