Assisted Suicide is Legal
2023—H.R. 4664, a federal spending bill, contains a provision to repeal D.C.’s “Death with Dignity Act” (p. 213, section 820, lines 3-18); it has not passed.
2018 and 2019—U.S. House put a provision to repeal physician-assisted suicide in D.C. via a budget rider, but the rider did not pass.
2017—HJ Res. 27 /SJ Res. 4 that disapprove of the D.C. Council’s passage of physician-assisted suicide via the “Death with Dignity Act.” HJ Res. 27 was passed by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. SJ Res. 4 was placed in the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs without action.
2016-2017—Physician-assisted suicide legislation (“Death with Dignity Act”) was passed in 2016 and went into effect in 2017.
